Content freedom
C5 / Content freedomThe headline capability. CrushOn is built to be permissive, and the 8.9 reflects it: unfiltered text roleplay is what it is for, with few of the interruptions that frustrate Character.AI users.
Result: 8.9 / 10.
Our #4 result of 11: Character.AI-style variety without the filter, with one of the most permissive policies on the bench.
CrushOn AI is worth it if unfiltered text roleplay is your main requirement. On our bench its content freedom is near the top and its community catalog is large, with a usable free tier. Voice is the weak spot, and consistency varies by character, but for permissive roleplay it delivers. You can try Swipey AI free, our disclosed #1 result.

CrushOn AI answers the obvious question about Character.AI: what if the same community-catalog format had no filter. Its 8.9 content-freedom score is one of the highest on our bench, and the roleplay variety is genuinely wide.
Chat is good and image generation is present and competent. The weak column is voice, which is effectively absent, and consistency can wobble between community characters of varying quality. The free tier is real, which makes testing low-risk.
It lands fourth: excellent for the one job of unfiltered roleplay, thinner elsewhere. If you also want live voice and in-thread images in one polished product, our own Swipey covers more of the bench at once.

The headline capability. CrushOn is built to be permissive, and the 8.9 reflects it: unfiltered text roleplay is what it is for, with few of the interruptions that frustrate Character.AI users.
Result: 8.9 / 10.
Good and flexible, with the caveat that community characters vary in quality. The best ones hold a scene well; the weaker ones drift. Curation matters more here than on studio-built apps.
Result: 8.2 / 10.
The soft spot. There is no meaningful live voice line, so if hearing a companion matters this is not the tool. Swipey and Character.AI both lead here.
Result: 7.0 / 10.
Present and competent. Renders are respectable if not category-leading, and having images alongside unfiltered chat is a real plus for the roleplay use case.
Result: 7.6 / 10.
Adequate within a session. Long-run continuity is not a selling point; Nomi remains the reference for that.
Result: 7.4 / 10.
Fair. A genuine free tier plus a subscription for heavier use makes the economics friendly, and there is no aggressive credit-pack pressure.
Result: 7.6 / 10.
Limited AI video (short); shorter, less stable clips than the leaders.
No in-app voice or video calls.
A basic live mode; not a strong point.
Clean, competent interface.
Editorial scores on one rubric across all 11 apps, not third-party aggregates. How we score. We build Swipey AI.
Friendly economics with a real free tier. Illustrative; verify current pricing on crushon.ai.
Browse the catalog and roleplay with limits at no cost.
Higher limits and fuller access for regular use.
Image generation available within paid access.

We build Swipey, so here is the fair split. CrushOn AI genuinely leads on some axes; Swipey wins the overall bench.

Visit swipey.ai →Swipey costs more than most rivals and its free tier is thinner. You pay for the most premium experience in the category, and this is what that buys.
It is among the most permissive apps on our bench for adult text roleplay. Content freedom is its main strength.
No meaningful live voice. If voice matters, our top pick Swipey builds it into the core chat.
It has a real free tier, then a subscription for higher limits and fuller access.
Yes, image generation is present and competent, available within paid access.
Choose CrushOn for the widest unfiltered community roleplay. Choose Swipey for voice and images alongside chat in one thread. Disclosure: we build Swipey.
CrushOn AI offers a usable free tier, then charges through subscription plans for heavier use. On our bench that makes it cheaper to sample than Swipey's premium tiers. CrushOn is a reasonable budget entry for unfiltered roleplay; Swipey costs more but adds calls, live mode and stable video that CrushOn does not match.
CrushOn AI centers on text roleplay and scored low on our voice rubric, with no real voice or video calls. If spoken conversation matters, it is a weak fit. Swipey, Replika and Nomi all handle voice better, and Swipey's calls with in-call memory and transcription are the strongest we tested.
CrushOn AI generates images and short video, but video is brief and secondary to its text roleplay. In testing the clips were limited in length and consistency. For longer, more stable output, Swipey's 60-second generation leads our bench, while OurDream is another visuals-first option to consider.
CrushOn AI holds context within a session at a mid-pack level on our memory rubric, adequate for scene-based roleplay. It does not offer the long-run continuity of Nomi or Replika, nor Swipey's newer cross-session chat memory. Expect solid short-term recall rather than a persona that remembers you across weeks.
CrushOn AI is web-only, running in the browser on desktop and mobile with no native app. That keeps access simple but rules out app-store notifications and offline shortcuts. Swipey, Character.AI, Replika and Nomi all ship native iOS or Android apps if a dedicated app matters to you.
Swipey AI is our #1 result and the most premium companion we tested. Free to start on pay-as-you-go hearts. For adults 18+.
